TFC Community Spotlight - Rainbow Acres (Camp Verde, AZ)

Rainbow Acres is a faith based residential community located in the heart of Arizona. Celebrating 50 years this year, our residents are 18+ with primary diagnosis of a developmental disability. Our milieu needs daily support, but is ready to grow in their relationships, self-care, meaningful work and hobbies like animals, greenhouse gardening, painting, weaving, fine arts, music, and all types of educational opportunities. Rainbow Acres is a treasured member of the local community volunteering and attending all sorts of local events. We coach people in the executive functioning, emotional wellness and life skills they need to succeed in adulthood. We advocate for people throughout their lifespan within an assisted living license. Our program includes medical and vocational supports both on and off site. We have openings right now, and hope you will check us out!

About Jen Murphree: 

Jen was raised in the Southwest by two special educators. Her passion is working with families and adults to realize their fullest potential through the many stages of life. Starting in 2001, she served as a direct support residential staff member as well as Activities Coordinator at Riverview School on Cape Cod in Massachusetts and as a founding staff member and Personal Finance Coordinator at Casa de Amma in San Juan Capistrano, California.

Jen joined Rainbow Acres in 2013 and served as the Director of the Annual Fund and Admissions Counselor before becoming Director of Admissions. Jen believes that God has called her to a life of service to individuals with developmental disabilities. Jen received her Bachelor’s degrees in International Affairs and Spanish from Northern Arizona University and her Master’s degree in Leadership from Grand Canyon University. Jen has two sons and a devoted husband who all love to hike in the woods and play games in their spare time.

The purpose of our community spotlight events is to share models of high quality I/DD communities across the country, so that those of you who are looking to create or expand an I/DD community can learn from various examples.  There are many different ways to serve individuals with I/DD.  No one size fits all.  What may work for your loved ones may not work for others and vice versa.  The key is to learn from those who have gone through this process.  Their successes and failures can teach us so much and we do not have to reinvent the wheels!
